Photo Finish – from the fireplace to the frame!

I love photography! I think I was doomed from the get-go because my parents and grandparents on both sides were snap happy, too! That said, I am unskilled. We were the $15 Instamatic sort of fans! I’ve graduated up to a $150 Canon that was a gift from my kids. It’s red, so they figured Mom would like it! Yes. Jane… Read more »

Super Skort – roping in a western look

I recently found some cool ‘faux leather’ fabric at the local Walmart. I’ve since seen the same stuff at Hobby Lobby. Billed as a ‘tooled suede’ it is reminiscent of an upholstery vinyl. It has a softer, sueded surface with the embossed western tooled motif, on a stable knit backing. Here’s what that looks like. It is predominately polyester and rayon… Read more »

Blueberry Oat Muffins – Yum!

I would prefer to just SEW all the time. Only problem is? I get hungry! Tis the season for fresh fruit specials! That inspires me to eat more fruit. Nothing better than a blueberry muffin, especially when the blueberries were delightfully inexpensive! This is a recipe adapted from an old Country Living magazine. They started out lower in fat, the recipe called… Read more »

Compare and Contrast Fit and Style on Similar Dolls

There’s a learning curve to everything, isn’t there? Fifteen years ago my daughter wanted a ‘real’ American Girl brand doll. We were not in a position to get one. I chanced upon a clearance sale for what appeared to be a similar doll, called a ‘Storybook Heirlooms’ doll. It was an 18″ doll and to my un-trained eye it looked… Read more »

phooey free sewing!

Happy Sewing and Happy Mother’s Day!! While sharing info on a doll Facebook page recently I stated my two main goals in pattern making.   This happy comment came from Linda Goehres Sevanick: “Rate yourself HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL at achieving your goals, Miss Jane! I made 6 of your bathing suits yesterday and I did not yell “PHOOEY” even once!” SEW….That’s my new… Read more »

Jots from jane -Goals versus Plans

I’ve heard that Americans, in particular, are very good at the immediate but not the important. What does that mean? It means that we rush right home to see our favorite TV show but we haven’t scheduled a health physical in three years. OUCH! John Lennon said: it’s easy to set goals. Goals are vague. ‘This year I want to have plenty… Read more »
